Toronto’s monthly improv showdown.

Every month, six of Toronto’s best improvisers hit the stage for a fast, funny, competitive night of comedy. The games are real. The stakes are ridiculous. The audience helps decide who survives.

What Is KUMITE?

KUMITE IMPROV is a monthly comedy competition where top improvisers battle through scenes, challenges, audience suggestions, and whatever the host decides to throw at them.

It is competitive, but not serious. It is structured, but never predictable. It is exactly the kind of thing that should happen in a room full of people who know they are watching performers make risky decisions in real time.

How does it work?

A stacked cast of improvisers compete through a series of scenes and challenges. Points are awarded. Alliances may form. Rivalries may emerge. Someone wins. Everyone takes it far too seriously, which is why it works.

Fast. Friendly. Ferocious.

KUMITE is for comedy fans, theatre people, date nights, group hangs, and anyone who wants to see great performers take big swings in a tiny room.

Two men are joking on a stage with a backdrop that says "The Assembly". One man, with glasses and curly hair, is smiling with his eyes closed and has a beard. The other man, with dark curly hair, is raising his arm and has his knee raised, as if in a playful kick, while covering part of his face.

At The Assembly Theatre

KUMITE IMPROV happens at The Assembly Theatre in Parkdale, one of Toronto’s best intimate rooms for live comedy and independent theatre.
